While I should have been studying for my CS 321 midterm, I got curious about online calendaring. My friend Brian has long had his schedule online, and eventually I'd like to do something similar. Only I want it to be fully automatic, other than my entering things into Outlook (which I already do). Not sure if I want to say what I'm doing at each time, but at least an "I'm busy" indicator would be good. That way I could tell my students to look there, and not ask me to be at lab when I'm going to be somewhere else.
For now, if you use a recent version of Outlook, you can set my Internet Free/Busy address to http://www.students.uiuc.edu/~jrbirnba/log/freebusy.vfb and then you can see what times are already blocked off (hint: go to new appointment and add me while looking at the Scheduling tab). Outlook will update this file periodically, and my weblog software will upload it to the students server.
In theory there's a Microsoft website that would also show this, no Outlook required, but it seems to be finicky. Eventually I'll track down the problem.
Back to studying...
