Wow, looking at the previous postings, I completely missed the whole finishing grad school thing. So yeah, I finished my masters in electrical engineering as of May (though I'm still waiting for my last half unit of work to be graded). My GPA will end up around 3.9, so I'm happy.
My entire family showed up for graduation, which was cool. My sister and brother-in-law live in New Jersey, so I don't get to see them all that often. And to make things even better, the graduation speaker didn't suck. Last year Maya Angelou spoke, and while I'm sure it was a very good speech from an important person, it bored me to death. Nothing like sweating in cap and gown to make you somewhat intolerant to interminable, flowery speeches. This year was Barry Bearak, a New York Times reporter. He was to the point, funny, entertaining, and made going to graduation worth while (bear in mind that there are two different events, one 'campus-wide' with the speaker, and a second Engineering event where they hand out diplomas, and I almost only went to the latter).
Graduation was finished up with an excellent meal at the Beef House in Covington, IN. Yes, we drove across state lines to get dinner. No, it didn't really take as long as that might sound. And yes, it was worth it to escape from the hordes of families in Champaign-Urbana all trying to get dinner at the same nice restaurants as everyone else. (just a hint: you know things are going to be bad when the Outback Steakhouse has a refridgerated truck backed up to it to hold enough food for the weekend).
